Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Last Updated: September 2026

This policy explains what happens when a booking is cancelled, and when a worker or employer does not turn up. It applies alongside our Terms of Service and Refund & Cancellation Policy.

1. If an employer cancels

You can cancel a job at any time before a worker has accepted it, at no cost.

Once a worker has accepted, they have committed their time and may have turned down other work. From that point a cancellation charge may apply, based on how close to the shift you cancel:

When you cancelCharge
More than 12 hours before the shiftFree
Between 2 and 12 hours before5% of the shift value
Less than 2 hours before10% of the shift value
After the shift was due to start20% of the shift value, or one hour's pay if that is higher

Any charge is subject to a minimum of ₹60 and a maximum of ₹500, and the exact amount is shown to you before you confirm the cancellation. Cancelling a worker you had only shortlisted, but who had not yet accepted, is always free. Deleting an entire job posting does not create a per-worker charge.

2. Where the cancellation charge goes

This money is paid to the worker whose shift was cancelled. It is compensation for the time they held for you and the travel or other work they may have given up. GigHour does not keep any part of it, and it is not a platform fee.

An unpaid cancellation charge prevents you from posting new jobs until it is settled.

3. If a worker cancels or does not attend

A worker who accepts a job and then does not attend is not charged money. Instead their reliability record is affected, which reduces how often their applications are shown to employers, and repeated or serious cases can lead to suspension.

Because payment only happens after a shift is completed and verified with both start and finish codes, no money changes hands when a worker does not attend. There is nothing to refund.

4. If an employer does not provide the work

If you travel to a job and the employer is absent, turns you away, or the work is materially different from what was advertised, report it from the job screen. Choose Employer did not show or Turned away on arrival.

These reports are reviewed by a person. Compensation in these cases is not automatic: an arrival can be claimed from anywhere, so paying on a claim alone would be open to abuse. Where a report is upheld, compensation is arranged under the same schedule as an employer cancellation at the gate.

If the employer formally cancels through the app after the shift was due to start, the charge in section 1 applies automatically without any report being needed.

5. Reporting a problem

Both workers and employers can report a problem with a job from the job screen. Reports are reviewed by a member of our team, who may look at booking, attendance and payment records before deciding. Filing a report does not by itself move money, pause a payment or change anyone's rating.

6. Changes to this policy

The rates and time bands above may change. The amount that applies to any specific cancellation is always the amount shown to you on the confirmation screen at the time you cancel.
